Hello Foothills Elementary Community,
I am so excited to begin my 7th year as Principal of Foothills Elementary. As I reflect the past 6 years at Foothills, a true sense of pride takes over when I think of what we have accomplished
as a Foothills community. From our Morning Meetings, Community Garden, Field of Dreams,
HUB at Foothills Foodies, PTA and PIE, to our high academic growth, one-to-one technology,
Innovation Block, and after school clubs and activities; Foothills is a place to SOAR. I would like
to thank our outstanding teachers and staff for always putting students first, and doing
everything they can in order to support our students both academically and social-emotionally
each day. Next, I would like to thank our families and community partners for all the help and
support each year. We would not be able to offer our students and staff the same level of
support and offerings without your help and commitment. Finally, I would like to thank our
students for making us feel special every day by giving us the opportunity to help them learn
and grow. We always say we have the best students in the world, and we do! Go Falcons!
I would like to share a bit about my background and experience. I come to you with 25 years of
educational experience in a variety of roles. I spent my initial years as a middle and high school
English and Electives teacher in Florida. I have been worked in Jeffco Public Schools for the past
17 years; during that time, I started as a teacher and then an Assistant Principal at Conifer and
Green Mountain High School. During that time, I served as acting principal periodically for a
number of Jeffco elementary schools. I am proud to write that I have been the Principal of
Foothills Elementary for the past 6 years. I understand how important it is to reach kids and
inspire them on a daily basis to develop critical thinking skills and to stoke their curiosity. As the
principal of Foothills, I am proud to be part of a caring school community that fosters
innovation, academic excellence, and has received national recognition.
Our Mission: As a Foothills community, we will continue to Dream, Lead, and Achieve
TOGETHER!
I live in Littleton with my wife, Cindy (Instructional Coach at the new remote school in Jeffco),
Max (8th grade), Sadie (6th grade), and our dogs. We love this community, and it is such an
honor to be one of the principals supporting the Green Mountain area, which is filled with years
of excellence and tradition. It is evident that the Foothills Elementary community “believes in
kids,” as our mission states. As principal, I will always do my best to provide a caring learning
community that “empowers our students to be life-long learners, responsible citizens, and
global leaders.”
Over the next few weeks, I look forward to connecting with as many of you as possible. I believe
strongly in the power of collaboration, and am committed to creating an environment in which
the sharing of ideas is valued and encouraged. My door is always open to you, and I am
dedicated and focused on building strong relationships and listening to your perspectives and
ideas for our school. As we come back to in-person learning in August, it will be a time to
reconnect with new and old students, families, and community members, and do some learning
together. I will continue providing opportunities to meet and have a conversation with all our
stakeholders. Please don’t hesitate to stop by the school to say hello in the coming weeks. Feel
free to email me at jshapiro@jeffco.k12.co.us or you can also reach out to Ms. Glenn in the
office if you would like to make an appointment.
Sincerely,
Josh Shapiro
