Welcome to Foothills

Congratulations, Foothills Elementary! Our Promising Partnership Practice was accepted for the 2020 Colorado Department of Education state-wide publication for the third year in a row. Not only did we get recognized yet again, but we are featured twice this year in the CDE publication for both our 1st Grade READ Act Pilot (Standard 3—Supporting Student Success) and The HUB @ Foothills Foodies (Standard 6—Collaborating with the Community).  Way to go Mrs. Cunningham, Mrs. LaViolette, Mrs. Kurtz,  Mrs. Marquez and the entire Foothills Family for all your hard work in making Foothills a World Class School!

Important Back-To-School Information:

We will need all families to call the Foothills Attendance line at 303-982-9324 when your child will be absent from school either online or in person. If your child’s absence is due to illness, please be sure to let us know the specific symptoms they are experiencing if the illness is related to COVID-19.

Student Drop-Off

Our school day begins at 8:50 am again this year, but we will begin our soft start at 8:30 am in order to provide ample time for breakfast and symptom screening. We will be sending out specific details on student pick-up and drop-off later this week, as well as a Day in the Life video for both in-person and remote learners.

Zoom Etiquette

It is important to remember that students working at home need a quiet place to work, free from distractions so that they are able to focus on their learning. Also, students need to practice active listening during Zoom learning sessions and engage in the learning with their peers.

Masks at School Students will be required to wear masks at school when they are inside the building. During their 30 minute lunch recess, students will remain with their cohort and will be able to remove their masks. Students will also have an additional 15 minute break where classes go outside and are able to distance and remove their masks. Please remember that masks should be washed between uses. If a student mask gets dirty during the day we will provide them with a disposable mask to finish the day.

Symptom Screening Each morning, when students arrive at school, students will be symptom screened. The screening will consist of asking the students the question, "Are you currently sick with a cough, sore throat, or runny nose?" and taking the student's temperature with a contactless thermometer. If the student answers yes to the question and/or they have a temperature of 100.4 F or higher they will be taken to our medical safe room and Ms. Glenn, our Health Room Aide will do further screening and call home to have you come and pick them up. When students are sent home our district nurse will follow up with the students family to determine next steps. Please talk with your student(s) about the screening process and talk with them about how they answer the question asked. Oftentimes students, when asked a question like this, will begin telling us about a time when they had a cough and confuse that time with the present. If students answer in this manner we will have to follow the procedures outlined above.

New End Time for Foothills

Just a reminder that our new end time will be 3:30 pm this year! The new end time will make the day more manageable for our Falcons and families, as well as help our after care program and after school clubs and activities.
Our start time will continue to be
8:50 am. Breakfast will begin at 8:30 am.

Before & After School Care Open Enrollment The City of Lakewood’s School Age Services Program offer before and after school childcare here at Foothills Elementary School for the 2019-2020 school year, open Monday through Friday in the morning from 7am to 8:45am and in the afternoon from 3:45pm until 6pm. We offer flexible scheduling throughout the week at a cost of $11 per morning and $14 per afternoon.  Parents/Guardians may select how often they come each week and only pay for services they wish to use. The School Age Services Program accepts CCAP (Child Care Assistance Program) funding and we offer scholarship assistance (up to 50% off daily fees) for families who qualify. Our professional staff are licensed through Jefferson County’s Childcare Innovations and the State of Colorado to provide a structured safe environment for all children while their parents are at work.

We are committed to offering electives, programs, clubs, and extracurricular activities that align with the four Green Mountain High School academies.

Foothills Elementary School is a wonderful neighborhood school nestled in the foothills of the Green Mountain area in west Jefferson County. Our school serves 279 students in preschool through 5th grade. We are dedicated to empowering our community to be lifelong learners, responsible citizens, and global leaders by incorporating 21st Century Skills in supporting the whole child, including incorporating social emotional learning as part of our daily instruction. Foothills supports Jeffco Generations by providing authentic tasks that help students to grow both socially and academically.
